What Help is Available for Victims of Domestic Violence?

New York State laws require all colleges to inform incoming students about sexual assault, domestic violence and stalking prevention measures. Individual colleges may differ in their response to these issues.
If you have been assaulted or are being stalked you may want to consider the following:
Note: Some school and university staff may be mandated reporters
This means that they may have to report the abuse if they have enough information. If you do not want to make a formal report you should ask about this before revealing too much specific information.- Calling 911 or campus security
- Going to your:
- Counseling center
- Health services center
- Resident Advisor (RA)
- Counseling center
- Calling the NYS hotline 1-800-942-6906
- They can refer you to a local domestic violence provider in your county for residential and non- residential services
- They can listen to your concerns and answer questions. You do not have to identify yourself.
- They can help you think about what you want to do next.
- They can refer you to a local domestic violence provider in your county for residential and non- residential services
- Documenting any instances of stalking, even if you do not wish to report.
- You may be able to get an order of protection
