Public Awareness

"Real men. Real respect for women" Campaign

Public Service Announcements on Teen Dating Violence

About the campaign

In the summer of 2006, the New York State Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence produced and aired television and radio public service announcements targeted to teens. Building on the previous year's campaign, "If it doesn't feel right, it probably isn't," which spoke to young victims of teen dating violence, these spots are directed to young men, encouraging them to take a stand when they see someone being abusive. A focus group of teens provided input for the dialogue. OPDV received very positive feedback on the spots and recently learned that they were nominated for -and won- a Telly Award!
