30-Second television ad script

Open on 4 guys and a girl at an outdoor basketball court. The boys are playing two on two hoops. The girl, who is leaning on the fence, takes her phone out and begins dialing. Her boyfriend, the abuser, tosses the ball to another guy and walks over before she finishes.

ABUSER: Who you calling?

The girl addresses her boyfriend

GIRL: I’m calling my girls. I don’t want to watch you play basketball.

Enraged, the abuser addresses the girl

ABUSER: Who d’you think you’re talking to like that? I tell you when you can go. Wait over there till I’m done!

THE OTHER BOYS HAVE OVERHEARD THIS AND STOPPED PLAYING BALL. THEY APPROACH HIM AS HE WALKS BACK ONTO THE COURT

One of the guys confronts the abuser

GUY 1: Yo, why you talkin’ to her like that? What’s wrong with you?

A second guy confronts the abuser

GUY 2: Yeah, why do you think you can tell her what to do?

A third guy confronts the abuser

GUY 3: What if someone treated your mother or sister like that?

The abuser angrily reacts to their criticism

ABUSER: Get out of my face! This ain’t none of your business!

One of the guys responds to the abuser

GUY 1: I’m making it my business.

BOY 2 FLIPS THE BASKETBALL TO ABUSER WHO STANDS ALONE ON THE COURT. THE BALL ROLLS TO HIS FEET.

Girl walks past abuser to join the three guys walking away, leaving abuser alone.

GUY 2: Nah, that’s one game we don’t play. Let’s get outta here.
